Herbs always possess healing qualities. Same is the case with a very popular herb, Henna. It refers to the dye prepared from the plant and the art of temporary body staining based on those dyes. When applied to hands and feet by women of different culture and religion, it enhances the natural beauty. It is also used to entitle your beliefs by telling different stories. Because of its natural cooling abilities, people apply it on burns, wounds and scrapes for generations.
Apart from its significance as a natural herb it is also associated with celebrations. It is regarded as blessing in some very prominent eastern cultures and also brings luck as well as joy and beauty. A hadith (narration of the Prophet Muhammad) holds that he encouraged Muslim women to dye their nails with henna to demonstrate femininity. It distinguishes women from men and gives the natural softness in women’s personality. My cousin who was born in London and then moved to States is crazy for henna. Using henna for a body art has been practised for over 5000 years. A lot of people are drawn to it simply because it is a kind of body art. The art of applying henna to the hands and feet is known as Mehndi, and is traditionally used for celebrations. In Muslim communities, the art of body staining with henna is a vital part of a very important celebration, Eid-ul-fitr.
Henna is also used for telling different stories. A story based on Mathew 6:25-34 (Bible) is that Jesus taught his followers to not worry about everyday life. According to him there is more to life than food and clothing. He sat an example of flowers. He said look they don’t work to make their clothes but a richest king is not dressed as beautifully as these flowers that are carefree and part of a universal cycle. If God cares for them and provide for them he will definitely care for you. A man’s concern must be higher. For Example, to see that god’s rule is established in the world. The meager concerns about food, clothing and shelter must not be a man’s primary concern. According to Jesus, people who don’t follow God are trapped in these worldly affairs.
